Running Gait Assessment in Calgary

We evaluate your running technique, identify inefficiencies, and offer practical strategies
to improve form, prevent injuries, and enhance performance.

Our running gait analysis in Calgary is designed for runners of all levels—whether you’re training for your first 5K or chasing a personal best. We assess biomechanics, stride mechanics, and loading patterns to uncover contributors to overuse injuries, such as shin splints, IT band syndrome, plantar fasciitis, and knee pain. Using high-speed video and expert interpretation, we tailor corrective strategies to improve efficiency, reduce strain, and support injury prevention. The result? Improved performance, faster recovery, and greater confidence with every stride.

If you're dealing with recurring running injuries — IT band syndrome, Achilles tendinopathy, plantar fasciitis, shin splints, patellofemoral pain — or if your performance has plateaued despite consistent training, the problem is likely in how you're running, not just where it hurts.

A running gait assessment at MSKrehab goes beyond video analysis. It integrates biomechanical observation with a clinical physiotherapy assessment — examining strength, range of motion, and movement patterns that contribute to how forces are transmitted through your body with every stride.

What the assessment includes:

  • Treadmill-based gait analysis with high-speed video review

  • Biomechanical assessment of stride mechanics, loading patterns, foot strike, and trunk and hip control

  • Clinical strength and range of motion testing for the lower limb and lumbopelvic region

  • Identification of specific mechanical contributors to your injury or performance limitation

  • A practical, prioritized plan — cue changes, strength targets, and training modifications — based on your findings

Common running-related conditions we assess and treat: IT band syndrome, patellofemoral pain, Achilles tendinopathy, plantar fasciitis, tibial stress reactions, hip and gluteal tendinopathy, and low back pain related to running mechanics.

After the assessment:

Most runners need a combination of gait modification, targeted strength work, and load management — not just new shoes or rest. We provide specific, actionable cues that address your mechanical findings, combined with an exercise prescription program targeting the strength deficits identified in your assessment. For runners with nerve-related symptoms or chronic pain patterns, Gunn IMS may also be part of the treatment plan.

If your gait issues are connected to a previous injury or post-surgical recovery, see also sports physiotherapy and sport-specific post-operative rehab.
