Sports Physiotherapy Calgary

Whether you’re a weekend warrior or elite athlete, our sport-specific physiotherapy helps you recover from injuries, enhance performance, and prevent future setbacks. We tailor rehab to the unique demands of your sport and goals.

From ACL tears and rotator cuff injuries to sprains, strains, and overuse conditions, our sports physiotherapy in Calgary is designed to get you back to peak performance—safely and efficiently. We treat athletes of all levels, from weekend runners to competitive players, using evidence-based rehab strategies that improve mobility, reduce pain, and prevent reinjury. Our focus on sports injury rehab, performance optimization, and athletic physiotherapy helps you move better, recover faster, and stay in the game.

Getting back to your sport isn't just about the injury healing. It's about making sure the underlying problem that led to the injury is actually addressed — so you're not back in the same situation six months later.

At MSKrehab, sports physiotherapy begins with a thorough assessment of the injury itself and the movement and loading patterns that contributed to it. From ACL tears and rotator cuff injuries to chronic tendinopathies and overuse conditions, the goal is the same: restore full function, return you to your sport safely, and reduce the likelihood you're back in here for the same thing.

What we treat:

  • ACL reconstruction rehabilitation and return-to-sport clearance

  • Rotator cuff tears, shoulder impingement, and labral pathology

  • Meniscus injuries and patellofemoral pain

  • IT band syndrome, Achilles tendinopathy, and plantar fasciitis

  • Hamstring, hip flexor, and groin injuries

  • Overuse injuries across all sports and activity levels

  • Shoulder and elbow injuries in throwing athletes

The Assessment Process

Your first appointment involves a detailed history of the injury mechanism, your training history, and any previous episodes. We use objective strength and range of motion testing, manual examination, and sport-specific movement assessment to build a picture of both the injury and the factors that contributed to it. Treatment is built from those findings — not a generic sport injury protocol.

Treatment Tools at MSKrehab

FCAMPT-level therapy for joint and soft tissue assessment and treatment. Gunn IMS dry needling where nerve-related muscle inhibition or chronic muscle shortening is identified — a common finding in athletes with recurring or non-resolving injuries. Exercise prescription built on objective strength and endurance measurements, progressively loaded to match your return-to-sport timeline. Soft tissue and fascial therapy for mobility restriction and scar tissue management. Joint Mobilization and Manipulations to increase joint motion and reduce pain.

Return to sport

We use objective criteria for return-to-sport clearance — not just time elapsed since injury. When you're cleared, you'll know why, and you'll have the capacity to back it up.

If you're a runner dealing with gait-related overuse injury, see our running gait assessment page. For post-surgical rehabilitation following sport-related surgery, see sport-specific post-operative rehab.
